The UP Warriorz Women finally got their act together in the WPL 2026, crushing the Mumbai Indians Women by seven wickets at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. They were chasing 162, and Harleen Deol smashed an amazing 64 not out, while Chloe Tryon added a quickfire cameo to seal the deal with 11 balls to spare. This gave MI their second loss of the season.
It wasn’t just a win; it was a statement. It was bouncing back. And for Harleen Deol, it was personal.
The UP Warriorz won the toss and chose to field, putting Mumbai Indians Women in to bat. MI surprised everyone by opening with Amanjot Kaur and Gunalan Kamalini, a change from their usual lineup. But it didn’t work out as they’d hoped.
The first few overs were rough. Amanjot Kaur couldn’t get going at first but stuck around. Kamalini looked totally out of sorts and got out for just 5 runs off 12 balls, caught by Sophie Ecclestone.
Amanjot ended up with 38 off 33 balls, hitting seven boundaries but never really taking off. When Harmanpreet Kaur joined Nat Sciver-Brunt, MI hoped to speed things up, but UPW’s spinners Deepti Sharma and Ecclestone slowed them down with some smart bowling.
Once again, Nat Sciver-Brunt showed why she’s such a valuable player in the Women’s Premier League. The English all-rounder hit 65 off 43 balls, with nine fours and a six, controlling the MI innings with confidence.
She teamed up with Nicola Carey, who added a useful 32 off 20 balls. Carey hit four boundaries in one over off Chloe Tryon, adding momentum, and Sciver-Brunt scored her 10th WPL fifty, tying Meg Lanning and Harmanpreet Kaur for the most in league history.
But the UP Warriorz fought back in the final overs. Shikha Pandey, Asha Sobhana, and Deepti Sharma tightened things up, giving away very few runs at the end. MI finished with 161 for 5, a decent score but not too scary on a good batting pitch.
When UP Warriorz batted, chasing 162, they also had a shaky start. Meg Lanning struggled, and Kiran Navgire looked uncomfortable. Nat Sciver-Brunt bowled well, taking out both Lanning and Navgire quickly to leave UPW in trouble at 45 for 2.
This early setback made them nervous, and they remembered their previous losses. But what followed was an awesome comeback.
Just a day after being controversially retired out in the previous game, Harleen Deol came out with a point to prove. Right from the start, she looked determined and played aggressively.
She hit the ball precisely, cutting and driving with ease. She hit three boundaries in her first three scoring shots, setting the tone. Deol punished any bad balls and kept the score moving quickly.
By the time UPW reached the halfway point, Deol was in control. She scored her half-century in just 32 balls, hitting 12 boundaries. The crowd, who had been supporting MI, suddenly had a new favorite.
This was more than just a knock; it was a message, a response to her critics, and a reminder of how good she is.
Phoebe Litchfield played her part perfectly, scoring 25 off 22 balls and rotating the strike. They put on a partnership that steadied the innings and shifted the momentum to UPW’s side.
Amelia Kerr eventually dismissed Litchfield, but by then, the damage was done. The target was within reach, and UPW were cruising.
Harleen Deol set it up, and Chloe Tryon finished it off. She came in confidently, smashing 27 off just 11 balls, with four boundaries and a big six. Her strike rate of 245.45 totally took the wind out of MI’s sails.
The unbroken partnership of 44 runs between Deol and Tryon came off just 20 balls, and UP Warriorz won in 18.1 overs by seven wickets with 11 balls left.
This match was Harleen Deol’s first fifty of WPL 2026 and one of her best innings ever. Nat Sciver-Brunt now jointly holds the record for most WPL half-centuries with 10, showing how consistent and valuable she is.
UP Warriorz also got their first win of the season, keeping their hopes of reaching the playoffs alive. For Mumbai Indians, this was their second loss in four matches, showing some weaknesses in their batting and bowling.
The main talking point was Harleen Deol’s comeback after being retired out in the previous game. Her response with the bat silenced the critics.
There were also a couple of DRS moments that caused some tension, including a close call involving Chloe Tryon that went UPW’s way. People on social media were debating the umpiring and MI’s tactics.
Another discussion was about MI’s decision to change their opening combination again, which didn’t work. The lack of stability at the top is now a worry for the defending champions.
Despite MI’s loss, Nat Sciver-Brunt was named Cricinfo’s Most Valuable Player with 94.85 impact points. Her 65 runs with the bat and 2 wickets for 28 runs with the ball show how brilliant she is as an all-rounder.
Points Table and What’s Next
With this win, UP Warriorz move off the bottom of the table and have more confidence for their next games. Mumbai Indians are still near the top but need to fix their batting and bowling if they want to defend their title.
The Women’s Premier League 2026 is getting exciting, and this match has added more intensity to the competition. UPW are back in the game, MI are challenged, and the race to the playoffs just got tighter.
